Before I continue I hope you, your friends and family are all keeping safe and well during this extremely challenging time? If you or a loved one have been personally affected, our heartfelt thoughts go out to you from everyone at The White Lion.
With the government and UK Hospitality sector having released the final guidelines, we can now communicate the official changes we are making to keep you safe and well during your time with us.
Matthew and his fellow Hotel Folk have been working hard to retain the balance between The White Lion experience you have learned to expect, whilst giving you the confidence you need to plan your next visit. Let me take a few minutes to explain some of the changes you can expect to see.
We have taken the decision not to open The Brasserie restaurant, except for breakfast, with every dish made to order and delivered to your table. If you are staying with us on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast package you have two choices for your evening meal, you can either choose to dine in our fantastic Indian restaurant, Sea Spice or the Seafood & Grill restaurant at our sister hotel, The Brudenell, just a short walk along the sea front. If you do wish to dine at either of these alternatives, we highly recommend booking in advance to guarantee a reservation as the restaurants are extremely busy.
Whichever restaurant you choose, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed, The Brudenell offers fantastic seafood, often using fresh catches from fish huts opposite The White Lion, along with some great British classics for the non-seafood fans.
If you fancy something different for your evening meal, Sea Spice offers a fantastic Indian culinary experience, with a fully authentic cooking style, though please bare in mind that Sea Spice is closed on Tuesdays, so if your visit falls over a Tuesday, you will not be able to enjoy the Sea Spice experience.
if you’re looking to enjoy Sea Spice from the comfort of your own living room, we are still offering our takeaway service, as well as a delivery service within a 3 mile radius of the restaurant.
Matthew and Laura, our assistant Hotel Manager, have been working closely and are committed to delivering a new dining experience, ensuring that you feel comfortable and able to relax. The first and most obvious is adherence to the 1 metre plus social distancing guidelines ensuring tables are well spaced throughout the restaurants, of course, if you would prefer to eat in the comfort of your own room they can arrange this for you.
If you’re looking for a delicious glass of wine or refreshing pint of Adnams on arrival, The White Lion bar will be open from 4pm until 9pm daily for residents and non-residents alike. Wash down your drink with some delicious Sea Spice inspired bar snacks to whet your appetite for later.
We will of course be asking you to look after yourselves a little more than usual, whilst we’re happy to bring your choice of tea or wine to your table, we’ll allow you to pour it for yourself. You’ll also notice our tables won’t be pre-laid, all cutlery will be brought to you throughout your meal with each course.

Amber Hack, our Head Receptionist is looking forward to welcoming you all with a friendly smile. You’ll notice a few small changes in reception, we’re kindly asking guests to check in a little later at 3 pm and check out a little earlier at 10.30 am simply to allow housekeeping to complete an even more thorough clean of our bedrooms before the next guest arrives.
You’ll notice all in-room reading has been removed therefore you’ll receive a more enhanced pre-arrival e-mail on completion of your reservation.
Turning to housekeeping, our Head Housekeeper Carla Chappell has also been making some subtle changes. Some examples include the earlier check-in and check-out times as referenced above. Daily housekeeping for residents staying more than one night will only be completed by request. We are of course happy to do this for you, we just ask you to arrange this with Amber at reception. We always have an array of fresh, fluffy towels and toiletries to hand, one of Carla’s team can also oblige.
In the public areas of the hotel you’ll notice housekeeping Folk are always on hand to ensure all popular touch-points are regularly sanitised as well as lots of sanitiser stations around the hotel. Your safety and our high standards of cleanliness are of utmost importance to us.
I do hope this information has put your mind at ease and given you some reassurances as to the steps we are taking to make sure your return is a safe one.
