Frerejean Freres Champagne Dinner
The White Lion Hotel is delighted to welcome champagne house Frerejean Frères to Aldeburgh for their exclusive tasting dinner in March.
As part of the evening, Frerejean Frères will be previewing their two new champagnes not due for release until later this year. The new Champagnes include the Frerejean Frères Rose, a deep ruby Champagne aged for a minimum of three years, and the vintage Frerejean Frères Blanc de Blancs, 2005 ‘Cuvée des Hussards’. Produced 100% from Côte des Blanc Chardonnay, its aged for a minimum of seven years before disgorgement followed by a further year in the bottle.
Guests attending the evening, hosted by Rodolphe Frerejean Taittinger and White Lion’s general manager Peter Osborne will enjoy an exclusive 4-course Champagne region themed menu, designed by the White Lion’s head chef Jason Shaw.
“Last year I was lucky enough to spend 3 days in the region of Champagne and spent time tasting the vintage and non-vintage blends” explains Peter “I’m delighted to welcome Rodolphe and Frerejean Frères Champagne to the hotel. Being host to the exclusive preview launch of their new Champagne is a privilege.”

A winning Christmas design
The White Lion Hotel set Aldeburgh Primary School the challenge of designing their Christmas Cards this year.
The winning design, a fantastic drawing of the front of the hotel in the snow was created by Jake Firman, aged 11.
“Jake did a brilliant job designing our card, we are delighted with it.” Comments Peter Osborne, general manager at the White Lion Hotel. “The finished cards look great and we are sure they will take pride of place on many mantle pieces. “
Christmas festivities have started already at the White Lion Hotel, with the party nights now in full swing and Christmas lunches being served.
Santa will also be taking time out of his busy schedule, popping in on Sunday 16th December to give presents to the children visiting the hotel for lunch with their families.
As well as festive lunches and party nights, guests can enjoy festive afternoon teas throughout December, served with warm mince pies, yuletide log Christmas crackers and novelties.
Guests spending Christmas and New Year at the hotel can look forward to an exclusive showing of Scrooge at Aldeburgh Cinema
, with drinks and canapés being served in the foyer, before heading back to the hotel to enjoy a sumptuous 5 course dinner served in the splendid Victorian-themed James Cable Room.
New Year is celebrated with a banquet-style 8-course dinner served with an excellent selection of fine wines followed music before a traditional piper brings in the New Year. Guests are then invited to join staff for the 2nd lantern parade on Aldeburgh beach.

Our ‘Brilliant chef’ comes highly recommended
We were thrilled at the great review of our Head Chef, Jason Shaw, in the East Anglian Daily Times on 20th August.
As well as describing as a ‘brilliant chef’ journalist Emma Crowhurst also discovers Jason’s early career influences and his passion for local produce. Oh and there’s also a great recipe for Jason’s fabulous fishcakes too.
