Spring is on our Doorstep
Posted by: White Lion
The sun is shining and temperatures are on the up which means one thing, spring is on the horizon.
After the severe drenching the UK received over January and the tail end of last year, the emerging, brighter and longer days with clear blue skies are certainly a warming welcome. We officially had the wettest winter on record, announced over a week before the season ends this coming March, with five new records for rainfall along the way. That says all you need to know!
On a more positive note, the signs of spring are clear for all to see. Snowdrops, hazel catkins and even ladybirds have started to re-emerge with hints of budding and sprouting in our gardens and surrounding countryside. Over the past quarter of a century, it has been suggested that British plants are coming into flower between two and 12 days earlier than in any previous 25 year period due to rising temperatures which is why we are seeing such early budding this year. Let’s hope the worst of the wintery weather is behind us.
