Thousands flock to Soul by the Sea at Aldeburgh
Thousands of people flocked to the beach at Aldeburgh on Saturday, 5th July to see top soul artists perform live outside the White Lion Hotel. The great party atmosphere continued well into the night as the Soul by Sea free charity concert was proclaimed an outstanding success.
Reaction to ‘60s soul man Geno Washington was sensational, taking the audience back to when he fronted the Ram Jam Band and had hits with Water, Que Sera Sera and You Don’t Know Like I Know. Also taking the stage was the ultimate party band Soul Kitchen, performing a high energy set of favourites including Dancing in the Street, Play That Funky Music and Brown Eyed Girl.
The event was hosted by local Anglian Radio station presenter Paul Morris, who hosts the Soul Show on Town 102 every Saturday afternoon.
Champagne and beer marquees along with BBQ and food outlets provided fuel for dancing into the early hours, while The RV8tors, flying their remarkably fast, fully aerobatic aircraft with powerful smoke systems, performed an unforgettable display. Climax of the evening was a Spitfire flyby and a spectacular firework show as the event came to an end.
Peter Osborne, General Manager of the White Lion Hotel said; “It was fantastic to have King of the Swingers Geno Washington join us this year, while Soul Kitchen’s dynamic dance routine and chef outfits got everyone up onto their feet.
“I would also like to thank our sponsors, without their generosity we couldn’t have put on a free event of this level, and also our audience who dug deep to help our local charities and made the evening such a wonderful success.”
Soul by the Sea raised over £10,000 which will be shared between local Aldeburgh Charities; The Beach Help an East Coast Child and Town 102 Kids Trust.
Planning has already started for next year’s open air Music by the Sea event, Through the Decades, which is due to take place on Saturday, 4th July 2015.
Soul by the Sea was kindly being sponsored by the TA Hotel Collection, East of England Co-op, Direct Seafoods, Aldeburgh Fish & Chip Shop, Frèrejean Feres, Pressi, Fuller Davies, Shorthose Russell, EDF, Suffolk New College, M.R.
