5 Activities for Kids on the Suffolk Coast
Posted by: White Lion
Date: 05.02.2014
There are plenty of family focussed activities and attractions here on the Suffolk coast, and with February half-term on the horizon, we thought we’d share a few suggestions with you...

To add further incentive, children under12 can eat and stay with us for free here at the White Lion in Aldeburgh*, so check out what’s on offer, and we hope to welcome you for a short family break on the Suffolk coast very soon!

Crabbing in Walberswick
The Suffolk coast is renowned for its stunning beaches and absorbing landscapes. Add a spot of fun into the equation and both children and adults alike can thoroughly enjoy their visit. Walberswick, a short walk from Southwold, is a very popular crabbing destination with children swamping the harbour and jetties throughout summer.

Canoeing on Alde Estuary
Based on the Alde Estuary in-between Snape and Aldeburgh is Iken Canoe Hire. The small and friendly team hire out canoes and kayaks on the upper reaches of the estuary, allowing visitors to explore the hidden creeks and flood waters otherwise not accessible. A great adventure for children seven years old or over.

Sutton Hoo
Excavations at this fantastic Anglo-Saxon burial site have uncovered many priceless treasures and artefacts. Now a popular visitor centre with year-round exhibitions, Sutton Hoo is a must-do when visiting Suffolk and is located a short distance from the coast in Woodbridge, around 10 miles outside Ipswich.

Suffolk Treasure Trails
Travel writer David Senior has created 12 Treasure Trails based around Suffolk, with trails on the coast in Aldeburgh, Lowestoft and Southwold. Varying in distance but usually around a couple of miles, the trails include Murder Mysteries, Spy Mission and of course, Treasure Hunts.

Minsmere Nature Reserve
Enjoy several miles of stunning countryside at the RSPB Minsmere Nature Reserve. Guided walks with family activities are available throughout the year along with hot and cold meals at the visitor centre and café. Kids will especially enjoy the Wild Zone and Wild Wood Adventure!

*Maximum of two per room, per booking.
